WEEK THIRTY—EIGHT: Friday, August 11—Thursday, August 17, 2006

  1. REPENTANCE FOR SIN IN THE CHURCH: THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF REVELATION—SARDIS

    This week, we focus on the Church of Sardis, who were judged for being “dead.”

    “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’ (Revelation 3:1-6)

    “Father God, we ask you to forgive us for not always watching, as we should. Forgive us, Lord, for the lukewarm prayers we often recite—more from “ritual” than from a heart that is fervent towards You. We ask You to renew the fire within us, that we might seek to do Your will, only, and none of our own; and that we might search Your heart to know how we are to act and to pray . . . moment by moment and day by day.

    We repent for this sin in the Church and ask Your forgiveness. Lord, we ask You to once again teach us YOUR ways, that we might repent, return to you, and be found faithful in the day of judgment. We ask You for Your mercy, dear God, in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

  2. REPENTANCE FOR THE SINS OF THE NATION: ALLOWING THE WORSHIP OF FALSE GODS IN AMERICA

    “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:3)

    Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates ... Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9,13-16)

    How deeply we, as a nation, must have wounded the Father’s heart in violating this law.

    Calling ourselves “one nation under God,” we instead welcome, tolerate and often promote the establishment of so many other “gods”—gods who, if served, can only lead one to an eternity without GOD . . . an eternity in hell itself. Our landscapes are now riddled with Islamic mosques, Hindu shrines, and Buddhist temples. The Moslems, in particular, now seem bent upon forcing our schools to adopt an Islamic-friendly curriculum. In the State of California, for example, state law now requires that social studies classes in junior high school include teachings on Islam. The boys and girls in these classes are given Moslem names and wear Moslem garb and even utter Moslem prayers, as they role-play being a Moslem! LET US REPENT:

    “Father God, we see how we have twisted Your teaching to love the sinner, into a way that is not Your way, of embracing and “tolerating” their sin. O Holy God, forgive us, for we have known not what we do. Help us to lead Godly lives before those who are now lost in paths of deception, and to be quick to give a word for our hope when we can. Let us be bold to confront error, and to take a stand in the public square and before our School Boards of Education, when doctrines of demons are foisted upon our young. May our people once again know Your righteousness, and walk in Your ways. Amen.”

  3. THE BLESSING OF ISRAEL:

    1. PRAYER IN OPPOSITION TO THE U.N. CEASE-FIRE RESOLUTION
      The UN "cease-fire” resolution that could be approved today is bad news for Israel. It prevents her from accomplishing anything that this government set out to do when Israel decided to deal with Hizbullah. There is no guarantee that the kidnapped IDF soldiers will be released; no disarming of Hizbullah; international troops—including French—are supposed to protect Israel's northern border from any attacks; and maybe worse, all this under the supervision and authority of the UN.

      • O God, harden the hearts of Israel's enemies—especially Hizbullah—to not accept this UN Resolution, but to outright refuse to obey.

      • Please turn US Secretary of State Rice from handing Israel a humiliating defeat.

      • Wake up both President Bush and the US UN ambassador Bolton, as well as Israel's UN representative Gillerman to reject this outright.

      • Back Israel into a corner to where she also cannot accept this.

      • We proclaim, "The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”s(Psalm 33:10-12)

    2. PRAYER FOR MESSIANIC JEWS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE IDF NOW
      • Protect them and their units.

      • Speak to and through them.

      • "Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.”s(Psalm 35:1-3)

      • For any in the IDF, who have family members who are believers, yet they do not yet know You—draw them to You during this time.

      • May the gifts of the Spirit be fully operational in these our brothers and sisters.

      • "Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.”(Psalm 128:6)
    3. PRAYER FOR GOD'S REDEMPTIVE PURPOSE IN THIS WAR: SOULS COMING TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF MESSIAH
      It would be wonderful if all that is happening aids Israelis to come to look on the One they have pierced and recognize their Messiah Yeshua. We want to see the things that the enemy has meant for evil turned into a blessing. And God is wanting us to pray for this so that He can extend His hand to save His people—the remnant of Israel (Jeremiah 31:7).

      • Lord save the new immigrants who for the most part are returning home because of their belief in the God of the Old testament—You, the God and Father of Messiah Yeshua.

      • Father, have mercy on the Gaza un-settlers and save them, especially as they remember their first year commemoration of their terrible ordeal of being removed from their land and homes.

      • Pour out Your Spirit on the settlers in general.

      • Yeshua, Son of David, have mercy on soldiers and victims of terror or rocket attacks who are still in the hospitals. Heal and save them for Your glory's sake.

      • Lord, reveal Yourself to many Lebanese. Turn the tables on Islam's false god ad saved multitudes of Moslems—in Lebanon, Syria and Iran.
