WEEK TWENTY-ONE: Friday, April 14—Thursday, April 20, 2006

SPECIAL EDITION: TIME OUT FOR REFLECTION AND MEDITATION

Dear Friends,

By the Grace of God, we have now arrived at the beginning of the second half of this forty week time of intensive prayer and fasting for our nation, for the church, and for Israel. Only our Father knows how many of us have made a commitment to follow these weeks of fasting; and how faithful we each have been in trying to do so.

Salvation, of course, is by faith—not by works. No matter how effective or thorough we may have been during the first half of this fast, God is “well pleased” that we have even begun to embark upon this journey together.

Now, as we enter into the remaining weeks ahead, it is time to stop, to reflect, and to give thanks for the Grace of God that encompasses and equips us all.

As a portion of this period of reflection, we wish to share a letter from one of our prayer partners who lives overseas, and who has chosen to follow this time of fasting with us. We were deeply blessed, strengthened, and encouraged by her thoughts; and we trust you will be, as well.

And now, may “the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.” (Phil. 4:23)

In Him,
The 40 Weeks Committee

I got an Email not long ago from Capital Hill Prayer Partners. They felt the LORD call them to fast 40 weeks in last November. Now, they are calling us to join with them. I am glad they call for 40 weeks fast instead of 40 days fast, because for a lot of us, Christians, we may have to change and adjust quite a few things in order to really mourn for our sins and for others.

  1. Many might have to re-adjust their priorities and schedules, in order to make time to read the Word and to be still and let the Holy Spirit to speak to them through the Word.

  2. Many might have to give away many unused things in order to lighten their burden from the things of the world, so that they may have more time to be alone with the LORD.

  3. It takes time for us to learn to be still and learn to wait upon the LORD and tune our ears to listen to His voice.

  4. It takes time to get into the right spirit and a right attitude to humble, to mourn, to be broken, to have a contrite heart, to confess and to repent of all our sins, and the sins of our family and love ones, and our church, and nations.

  5. It takes time to co-operate with the Light of the Spirit to show us and to dig deep and to clean up from the garden of our souls from all the stones, weeds, thorns and then put in good soil and sow good seeds, etc. They take time and effort and heart to do them.
